The Next Chapter Begins

At long last, I’m excited to announce the launch of Friday Fix Fiction, a standalone, online literary journal devoted to fifty-word microfiction. If you enjoyed reading or writing for The Friday Fix here on Medium, I hope you’ll consider taking a look at the new publication.

The overall concept is the same, but the model is a bit different. Instead of posting weekly prompts, a monthly theme will be shared, and accepted stories will appear on the last Friday of every month. My goal is to publish twelve issues for 2021. Each issue will publish up to twenty stories.

Here…

A few updates and where to find me (and some of my writing)

Hi, Medium world!

It’s been a while, but I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

I figured I’d drop in and give a couple of updates to let people know where to find me and some of my newer writing.

The Friday Fix is still alive and kicking over on Twitter. The format is a little bit different, but the concept is the same. If you ever feel the urge to write some prompt-based microfiction, come on over and check it out!

I recently began a Substack newsletter as well, called Micro 2 Go (is the “2” slightly…

A bittersweet “see you later” and a preview of what’s to come

You may be asking yourself, “Where the heck is the prompt for this week?”

Well, everyone, I have some bittersweet news to share.

Effective today, I will no longer be publishing stories at The Friday Fix on Medium. I’m sorry to pull the E brake so suddenly with little to no warning.

Trust me, this decision was not an easy one to make. I’ve enjoyed running this publication from day one. It’s been an absolute pleasure getting to know many of you, having the chance to read your fifty-word stories, and sharing them with this community.

There are many reasons…

First off, I hope all is well! Secondly, thank you for reading this and for supporting The Friday Fix.

For the month of August, let’s take a look at opposites and use them as inspiration to write some microfiction.

In your story responses, you’ll need to think about two specific words and consider which one provides a stronger pull. You’re even allowed to blur the lines and write about both. Don’t worry, there’s no right or wrong approach here — no incorrect path to take.

With that said…which one will you choose?

Author Spotlight is a new monthly feature at The Friday Fix. The goal is to celebrate the many wonderful writers we have here at the publication. Each “spotlight” piece will include an interview with the author, a link to the author’s website, links to any published works outside of Medium, and a list of the author’s personal favorite stories on the Medium platform.

These posts will be free to access for everyone, forever. Enjoy!

It’s our final week of July at The Friday Fix!

This month is going to be all about music. I’ve steered away from it the past few months, but at this point I better let my instincts guide me.

Music is a great equalizer. It can bring people together, regardless of who they are, where they’re from, and what they believe in. Right now seems like a fitting time to listen to and discuss music.

The songs used as inspiration this month will cover a broad spectrum. The one key similarity is that all of the songs will be “easy”…

Summer 2020

I hope everyone’s summer is off to a great start.

The Friday Fix has been blessed to receive so many wonderful stories this past spring. We’ve amassed close to 800 followers and dozens upon dozens of new writers. Thanks to each and every one of you who has contributed, read, and clapped!

Though in many ways we’re still trudging our way through 2020, I hope you can find this tiny corner on Medium as a chance to catch your breath. Though what’s to come is far from certain, I know this community will continue to write, read, and connect.
